What is Answerit?
Answerit is an online community forum where you can ask questions on a range of topics, both serious and fun, and get answers from real people. It's a place to share ideas and information with others about sport, politics, movies or whatever else interests you. Anyone can search or browse the site to discover what people are asking or to discover knowledge about a particular topic.
Answerit is also a game with a points system. By asking and answering questions you can accumulate points and build a reputation as an expert in a topic (a ‘guru'), or simply climb the leaders' ladder.
Answerit is not a chat room where users can contact one another directly – all communication is public and channeled through questions and answers.
You can search or browse the site without signing in, but to participate (ask, answer, vote) you need to sign in. Membership of Answerit is free.

How does the question and answer system work?
Questions go through various stages as they are asked, answered and resolved. To keep the new questions fresh and interesting, there is a limited time period for a question to stay open in the system. Once a question is resolved it forms a permanent part of the Answerit knowledge base where it can be searched, added to people's favourites and shared with others via email.
This is how it works:
Open questions
When you ask a question, it is immediately listed as an Open question. It will stay open for 7 days, during which time anyone can answer it.
Resolved questions
A question becomes Resolved when a Best Answer is selected. You can select a Best Answer to your question after one day (24 hours) and up to seven days after asking the question. If you don't think any of the answers are good, you can select No Best Answer and the question will be Resolved.
Undecided questions
If you don’t select a Best Answer / No Best Answer for your question within the seven day open period, the question will become Undecided, and the community can vote for the Best Answer over a further seven day period by given “thumbs-up” in the “Vote” section of the site. Once the community has selected a Best Answer which has the most “thumbs-up” the question will become Resolved.
Deleted questions
Your question will be removed from the system if:
- Nobody answers your question in the seven day open period
- You don't select a Best Answer / No Best Answer for your question within the seven day open period and the community doesn't select a Best Answer within the next seven days, the question will be deleted.
Giving a thumbs-up
Giving a thumbs-up encourages people to add the type of content you like to see! If you like a question or answer posted by someone else, you can give them a thumbs-up, and the user will earn a point. And if you give a thumbs-up to an answer when the question is undecided, you're actually giving that answer a vote for Best Answer as well – and this will earn you a point.

Reporting abuse
If a question or answer does not conform to the Answerit Code of Conduct, the community can report abuse (the use of offensive language or hate speech, promotion of illegal activities or blatant advertising). When abuse is reported, the Answerit editorial team will review the question/answer, and it if is indeed abusive, the question will be deleted.
What are Good Questions?
We pick out questions that are particularly interesting or thought-provoking and feature them in the Good Questions section for a random time period.
How do I track what interests me?
You can keep track of the events that interest you in Answerit, relating to your own activities, someone else's question, a topic or a person. Here's how to do it:
Bookmarking a question
If you find a question that interests you, you can Bookmark it, which will tell Answerit to email you each time there's a new answer to that question. At any stage you can remove the question from your list of bookmarks.
Watching a person
If you like the questions someone else is asking, you can add that person to your watchlist. You'll be notified each time he/she asks a new question.
Subscribing to a category
If a particular topic interest you, you can subscribe to a category via RSS feeds, if you have an RSS reader.

Answerit will send you email notifications of specific events. You can decide which ones you want to receive on your my Answerit page. For each event, you can also tell Answerit to notify you as soon as it happens or once a day. The things you can monitor are:

How do I invite a friend?
Inviting a friend is a great way to bring people you know into the Answerit community, as well as to earn good points! When you join Answerit you are given 20 invitations which you can use to invite people to participate. If a person signs up from that invitation, you will earn 10 points!
How are best answers selected?
Once a question has been posted by a user after 24 hours the user can select a “Best Answer” for their question. If they do not do this in the period of a week then the question will go into the “Vote” section of the site for a further week so that all users can vote for a best answer by giving a “thumbs-up”. The answer with the most “thumbs-up” will be deemed the best answer and receive 10 points.
What is the vote section?
If a user has not selected a “Best Answer” which is worth 10 points after a week then the community gets an additional week to decide what the “Best Answer” for a question is. They do this in the voting section by giving “thumbs-up” to the answer they think is best. At the end of the week the best answer will be awarded and the question will be closed.
