Doughboy -- between questions about baking (cupcakakes and marzipan) and religion (the Pope, Dalai lamai, Russian churches), you are running me ragged!! Some people are born with a veil, caul, or hood, over their face. Perhaps you are one of these people, or know someone who was born this way. Many belief systems hold that being born with a veil is a sign of special destiny and psychic abilities, or good luck. Through the years I have read people born with a veil. Most are female and believe themselves to be psychically gifted, while others show no advanced abilities nor interest. To be born with a caul, may go more to being Born with a Calling and where that takes a soul. http://www.crystalinks.com/caulveil.html

A 'caul bearing' birth is when the amniotic sac thet normally surrounds the baby in the womb is still attached. The word caul means helmet. The membrane is easily removed by doctor or midwife. Many superstitions surround 'caul bearers'..one of them being that the person would never drown..(because they did not understand that babies could survive in the fluid without breathing), another belief was that the person would be lucky. Most lucky people don't need to wear a bag on their heads!!

A caul or veil is a thin, filmy membrane, the remnants of the amniotic sac that covers or partly covers the baby born with a thin membrane enveloping the fetus, denoting that the infant is psychic. Many people believe that being born with a veil is a sign of special destiny and psychic abilities.
