Buy the book E-commerce with Virtuemart. Find a host that will load the Joomla framework for you and viola, you are up and running. It is very easy to use. If you are not so inclined to do the schlog work yourself. Spaces me, I will do it at a reasonable fee.

I assume you want an online catalogue and order facilities, and I also assume you have your products identified and worked out the pricing with your vendors. Then there are a few more very important steps. First, as ladyEagle said, you need to set up your website and database. You will want to be able to update this yourself - discuss this with your developer. You will also want SSL for secure transactions. And then, of course, you will need a marketing strategy. I think I still have ebooks on internet marketing. Spaces me and I can send it to you if you want it

Your main issue will be to get traffic toyour website in order for people to buy things. Spen good money on a knowledgeable person/marketing strategist who can do that - you need to be proctive at that, not reactive and dont rely soley on things like Google Adwords etc.
