How do archaeologists make money?

Do they get paid monthly like some of us or only after an excavation/discovery of something? 2 wks ago

They rob old ladies at ATMs with ancient weapons. ;P Seriously, they're usually employed, with a secure monthly salary, by a university or research group or foundation.

I think they are mostly funded by big companies or universities. They will get a grant for a period of time, which will be reviewed for renewal if required

In the 'heyday' of archeology, governments funded most operations. I read somewhere (dunno if this was propaganda or true) that Germany before ww2 funded archeology expeditions to 'find' artefacts. It read that the expeditions were no more than grave robbing exercises to fund the soon to break out war.

Lady eagle. Yes Germany/Hitler also funded expeditions to Tibet and funded “research”. on the source of the Aryan race. Then Napoleon invaded Egypt as well and he (French government) funded research excavations, Thank goodness they discovered the Rosetta stone.

Like exploratory voyages which were sponsored by the queen or the king of the day archeologists are funded by established institutions with interest in the theme or area in focus. They will then sell your skull to another person who enjoys collecting empty skulls. Because I happen to be brainless my skull will be worth to them enough to fund another 3 expeditions. The Smithsonian, museums and foundation, etc will be chasing after my stationary, dry and brainless skull I tell you. You are worth more to them brainless than breathing. A breathing Tyrannosaur Rex with piano playing nails is worthless to a hardened archeologist.

They write thesis's about what they find, what they uncover etc, as it's this information which is later used in scientific studies. If they have the knowledge, and information then it would be paid for by others. People/companies invest in them to do exactly this as there's so much to learn about where we came from etc.
